Mario Yñiguez (he/him) is a songwright, composer, multi-instrumentalist, director, and creator. He is known for his versatility across genres, sincere craftsmanship and a conceptually holistic approach to creation.
Yñiguez can be seen weaving his work through solo projects under Mario Why, as a guitarist and vocalist for band Harrison Fjord, and in the pits of musicals.
May of 2025, Yñiguez released his debut EP, Their Hearts Were Full of Spring, under Mario Why. Transforming his musical theater and classical vocal expertise into what one can describe as, ‘lusciously-indie,’ or ‘baroque canyon pop.’ With alternative odes to chamber music and Americana, Mario Why’s debut shines a new light on his artistic identity.
Yñiguez actively composes, scores, and serves as musical director for theater productions across the U.S. He regularly performs at performing art centers and venues in the greater-Phoenix area in addition to performing at Pepsi Amphitheater, Blumenthal Arts, and 54 Below.
Currently, Yñiguez is based in Arizona, where he performs, teaches at Arizona State University, and operates a home recording studio and woodshop called Oakhaus.
